A big success - the AV library in 2025
Since its opening, the school library has been a huge success. Primary and secondary school pupils, as well as university students, teachers, and professors, regularly visit to read, study, and use the internet in peace.
Thanks to good fortune and the tremendous dedication of Hagos Gebremariam and his staff, the library suffered no damage during the civil war. With foresight, Country Director Hagos had completely emptied the buildings and stored the valuable furniture and books in many private homes. Fortunately, the empty buildings were of no interest to the looting soldiers and were not destroyed. After the end of the cruel war, the rooms could be refurnished and regular operations resumed. This campaign is yet another example of how well the community in Adigrat works together.
The library's user numbers speak for themselves. Three time slots are offered: morning, afternoon, and evening. Since the students attend school either in the morning or in the afternoon—unlike what we are used to in Germany—the morning hours are also used for independent study. In July 2025, for example, 2,752 visitors were registered, as well as almost 1,000 internet users.
